VALENTINE’S DAY SAW THE DUO SHARE THE DECKS FOR A 5 HOUR-LONG, ALL-DAY, LIVE RECORDING OF THE 11TH PURE TRANCE MIXCOMP IN CENTRAL LONDON

To borrow a line from another electronic-music pioneer, “you’ve come a long way, baby” – an apt summary for Solarstone’s ‘Pure Trance’ album series, which reached double digits in 2024.

When it launched,” Solarstone says, “I don’t think Pure Trance crossing the ‘Volume 10’ landmark was something many people saw happening. I’m not even sure the possibility occurred to me! Nonetheless, it was an ‘X marks the spot’ moment for the series. A natural point where one ‘chapter’ could close and another open.

Evolving something as defined as ‘Pure Trance” isn’t easy though”
he grins.“So, I dug back into what made – and continues to make – the movement so uniquely one-of-a-kind. My mind went to the shows, and there, naturally a way of uniting the nights and the albums presented itself.”

At London’s Spitalfields Market on Feb 14, that’s exactly what Solarstone did, he turned another page in Pure Trance’s evermore-stored history. Bringing perfect symmetry and beautiful legacy to proceedings, joined by his ‘Pure Trance V1’ co-mixer, Finnish DJ, producer and composer Orkidea.

Since they first began working together, the two have bonded over many shared influences, and not least a mutual respect for how mixcomps used to be forged.Specifically, ‘Northern Exposure-style’, ‘the Global Underground way’ or through the ‘Renaissance’ approach. Live, gritty, sweaty and laser-lit, yet brilliantly thought through and planned out. Then mixed with a human skill that’s been honed since the dawn of electronic music time, with each transition another tripnotic step up Jacob’s Ladder. With the pair already well-versed (through their Solarstone+Orkidea All Night Long shows) in each other’s turntable ways, the dye for Pure Trance XI has truly been cast.

‘Pure Trance XI’ will be released in the spring of 2026.

Setting the stage for the now fast approaching 2026 ‘ISOS’ season, Markus Schulz partners-up on a track with Dutch singer RYVM (Raffie van Maren). Driftmoon – High Wall

Tim Stark

‘High Wall’ unlocks the door to Driftmoon’s Sōnnux Music – the new recordings home that Juraj Klička, and Miikka Leinonen have built themselves.   Following the duo’s reunification in ‘23, when Miikka rejoined as a fulltime member, the pair have been on the march, not least with December’s extraordinary concept album, ‘Moonstruck’. Now, with Sōnnux, […]

Frankyeffe – Out Of This World EP

Tim Stark

Frankyeffe’s calling it an “EP”, though others might argue it’s closer to a full album. Either way, ‘Out Of This World’ makes one thing abundantly clear: when it comes to midnight studio oil and full-throated clubland firepower, Italy’s Francesco Fava’s not a man to do things by halves. Fresh from his ‘One More Night’ outing […]

Push – Known Universe

Tim Stark

This summer, Push returns to the album format with ‘Known Universe’ – the eighth longplayer in his eminent career. That ‘known universe’ specifically is the hardware-driven studio world that shaped his earliest work. The one that Mike Dierlickx painstakingly reassembled in order to reconnect with the tools, challenges and workflows of his original environment. In […]

Roger Shah – Magic Island – Music For Balearic People Vol. 13

Tim Stark

Having stopped to smell the roses for a few cycles, Roger Shah’s hallmark music compilation series returns to streams, stores and shelves in 2026. Onboard, naturally, is its usual, impeccable prog/trance/house blend of melodic-tropics, harmonic sonics, castaway chords, beachfront character and seaside atmosphere. Ready to do it to the summer, before the summer does it […]

Waking Up In A Northern Town by Christian Burns

Tim Stark

There’s been a long tradition of musicians from the north of England honouring their origins through their recordings – one that dates back as far as The Beatles’ penning ‘Penny Lane’. ‘North Country Boy’, ‘Hit The North’, ‘Life In A ‘Northern Town’, ‘The North At Its Heights’, ‘It’s Grim Up North’ – just a few […]
