Spotify-Apple

In today’s music industry, streaming isn’t just the main stage — it is the stage. And two giants are battling for the spotlight: Spotify and Apple Music. Both offer artists and listeners different advantages, but their strategies, scale, and payouts tell very different stories.

Reach and Global Audience

Spotify sits comfortably at the top, drawing in about 696 million monthly users worldwide, with 276 million of them paying for the service as of mid-2025. Apple Music keeps its subscriber numbers quieter, but industry estimates put it at roughly 93 million global users — far smaller than Spotify, yet still a major player.

Market Share Showdown

On the global scoreboard, Spotify claims around 31–37% of the streaming market, leaving Apple Music’s 12–14% share trailing behind. In the U.S., the competition is tighter: Spotify leads with 36%, Apple Music follows closely with 30.7%, and Amazon Music rounds out the top three with 23.8%.

How They Pay the Artists

Spotify runs on a dual engine — subscriptions and ad-supported streams — which lets it reach more people but keeps per-stream payouts lower, in the ballpark of $0.003–$0.005. Apple Music operates on subscriptions only, paying closer to $0.01 per stream. That higher payout means Apple Music can generate more income per listener, which is attractive for artists focused on earnings rather than sheer reach.

Experience and Features

Spotify’s magic lies in discovery. From curated playlists and algorithm-driven recommendations to shareable moments like “Wrapped” and collaborative playlists, it’s built for exploration. It also folds in podcasts and other audio content, making it a one-stop listening hub. Surveys show strong loyalty — 38% of U.S. listeners and more than half of U.K. users name it their go-to platform.

Apple Music plays to its strengths: sleek, minimal design; seamless integration with Apple devices; and premium features like Spatial Audio and Lossless playback. For sound purists and Apple devotees, it’s hard to beat.

So Which Should You Choose?

If you want global reach, fast audience growth, and algorithm-powered exposure, Spotify has the edge.

If you’re chasing top-notch sound quality and higher payouts per stream, Apple Music might be your stage.

Many artists choose to be on both — Spotify helps grow the fanbase, while Apple Music can boost the bottom line.

In the end, it’s less about declaring a single champion and more about using the platform that best fits your creative goals — or better yet, using both to play every angle.

Frankyeffe’s calling it an “EP”, though others might argue it’s closer to a full album.
