With a billion Spotify streams, ABBA‘s 1979 disco song “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight).” Following “Dancing Queen” in July 2023, this is the Swedish pop groups second entrance into Spotify’s Billions Club. According to Spotify, Gen Z listeners, those born between 1997 and 2012, which accounts for half of the 11 million ABBA finds on Spotify this year across all age groups, reached the mark.

Gen Z Spotify users now comprise half of ABBA’s streaming audience worldwide this year. Gen Z consumers now account for 35% of all streams in Sweden, where the band was established in Stockholm in 1972. Renewed interest in ABBA’s catalog has led to a rise in worldwide streams of 150% over the past five years. Around 130 million user-generated Spotify playlists include the group’s songs. “Dancing Queen” is still the most streamed song among Gen Z listeners, followed by “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!,” “Lay All Your Love On Me,” “The Winner Takes It All,” and “Mamma Mia” also among the top five

Spotify said: “More than four decades after its release, the disco anthem is experiencing a powerful resurgence, thanks in large part to Gen Z listeners on Spotify, who are discovering ABBA’s music in massive numbers.”

January 1, 2025 became “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!”‘s one highest streaming day, which points to its popularity as the disco hymn for New Year celebrations. Published as the only single from ABBA’s second greatest hits compilation Greatest Hits Vol. 2, the song was also included in reissues of the group’s sixth studio album Voulez-Vous from 1979

It adds to other hits on Spotify’s Billions Club playlist, which includes Billie Eilish’s “BIRDS OF A FEATHER,” Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars “Die With A Smile,” Gracie Abrams “That’s So True,” and Kali Uchi’s “Moonlight.”

Though ABBA has ceased performing together since 1982, their digital avatars may still be seen at the groups holographic concert residency ABBA Voyage at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Since May 2022, the series of concerts has been ongoing. Driven by high sales, the UK-based holding company for the virtual event series, Aniara Ltd., reported in October last year that Abba Voyage made $129 million in 2023

According to The Independent, ABBA member Björn Ulvaeus said he is unsure if ABBA Voyage will go on if one of his bandmates passes away. Agnetha Faltskog, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad make up his bandmates. Speaking on Times Radio Ulvaeus said: “I’ll talk to the others about that as we need to decide beforehand between us if it’s OK for all four of us to go on after we’re gone.”
