Every JVNA era has a beginning, and “Violet Genesis” goes back to the very first one. Out now, the EP is her homage to the melodic, cinematic bass sound she launched JVNA with – heavy sound design, a hopeful, ethereal mood and the anime and role-playing game soundtracks that shaped her earliest work – rebuilt with everything she has learned since: sharper songwriting, a more mature vocal and stronger production. Across its 5 tracks, “Violet Genesis” moves through love and overcoming hardship on the same widescreen scale as the game scores that first drew her in. It includes September’s single “Gravity,” a song about standing beside someone whose world is coming apart and trying to pull them back toward hope, which introduced the direction of the release. As with everything she puts out, JVNA wrote, produced, sang and released the EP herself, and that independence keeps it personal: after several years spent exploring different sides of herself as an artist, she has come back to the sound that feels most like her, this time with full intention behind every choice.
“This EP is me going back to where it all started. When it was still just for the love of it, before all the different eras. There was a sound that was just purely me – hopeful, ethereal, nostalgic. Heavy sound design, melodic bass, cinematic, anime OST and video game score inspired. That’s where JVNA began, and that’s where this album lives. Over the years I’ve explored so many different sides of myself as an artist and I genuinely loved all of it. Every era taught me something, every experiment made me grow. And now I’m at this place where I wanted to pay homage to my original sound but with everything I’ve gained since then. Better songwriting, more mature vocals, stronger production, and a level of intention I didn’t have before. This EP is a revisit into my original sound but with the new skills and techniques I’ve ‘equipped’ to remaster it. It’s cinematic, JRPG video game score inspired, with themes about overcoming hardships and love, and a retelling of everything that made me fall in love with music when I first began this project. At its core this album is deeply nostalgic – not in a looking-backward way, but in a this-is-who-I-am way. It’s me honoring where I started from while showing everything I’ve become.” – JVNA
Born in Los Angeles to Taiwanese parents, JVNA is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who creates ethereal soundscapes of dance music and pop, blending cinematic depth with raw emotional resonance. Her music reflects her journey, weaving personal stories into melodies that feel timeless and universal. At six, she began studying classical piano, laying the foundation for a life devoted to music. Her studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Musicexpanded her artistry into film and game scoring, combining technical precision with vivid imagination. Inspired by anime and gaming, her early remixes went viral, capturing the hearts of a growing audience. Her rise was deeply rooted in the community she built as a Twitch streamer, where fans helped crowdfund her debut music video, “I’m With You,” with just $1,000. This self-directed tribute to her late father marked the start of her evolution as a multifaceted artist. Her debut album, “Hope In Chaos” (2021), explored themes of loss and resilience, leading to a successful North American tour. In 2023, JVNA released “Play With You,” a bold declaration of feminine empowerment and dark, magnetic energy. The album symbolizes breaking free from victimhood and reclaiming strength unapologetically. Through her music, JVNA turns life’s trials into art, inviting listeners into a dreamlike world where vulnerability and strength coexist, and fleeting moments linger forever.
