Pattern Perception

After the singles “One More Hit,” “The Colours Of,” and “Forget Me Not” received support from BBC Radio 6Music, Pattern Perception is releasing his much-anticipated debut album “Spectrum Disorder” on Irvine Welsh’s Out Yer Box Records. The name Pattern Perception reflects the idea of seeing connections or patterns that may not actually exist.

Dave Patterns began producing music during the Covid lockdowns as a way to escape the difficult situation. Initially trying to mimic established record labels, he eventually chose to create music that blended all the styles he enjoyed, focusing on mood rather than genre. He began sharing his work through BBC Introducing and gained attention from various DJs, leading to collaborations with others in the music scene.

I found it a healthy escape from the situation we were going through, and also realised what a huge new creative outlet I had found,” he says. “I was addicted straight away.”

“Spectrum Disorder” features ten tracks that explore different musical styles, from emotive dubstep to dreamy breakbeat. One notable track is “One More Hit,” characterized by a melancholic piano intro that develops into a powerful emotional piece. Other tracks include ‘Lost In The Crowd’, “This Is What I Am,” and a cover of Bronski Beat’s “Smalltown Boy,” reimagined as “Smalltown Girl.” The album concludes with “The One,” showcasing a mix of immersive sounds. Dave attributes the unique feel of his music to his choice of minor chords and a lack of formal technique, creating a distinct sound that resonates with listeners.
