Born in Chicago and now known worldwide, Trax Records sparked a global change with House Music. The label, led by Screamin’ Rachael, didn’t just produce records; it transformed lives, created movements, and reshaped dance culture. Trax, launched by Larry Sherman in 1985 from a small vinyl plant, emerged from a spirit of rebellion and community, steering clear of the music industry norms. Its distinctive sound helped define a generation and continues to evolve today.

Screamin’ Rachael, a pioneer in electronic music, started her journey in house music with punk influences and connections to Chicago’s underground scene. Her early work near Frankie Knuckles’ Warehouse and her contributions to the first vocal house track set the foundation for her career, which included introducing Chicago’s sounds to New York and collaborating with key figures in house and hip house music.

To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Trax is releasing “Trax Records: The 40th Anniversary Collection,” (released on June 20, 2025) a multi-format assortment that reflects the label’s past, present, and future. This collection, curated by Jorge, will be available both digitally and on limited-edition vinyl, featuring iconic tracks and innovative producers. Trax’s commitment to music over trends sets it apart, prioritizing artistry and deep connections to the underground music scene.

The anniversary celebration will also feature a special in-store event on June 20 at Reckless Records in Chicago, showcasing performances by legendary and new artists. Additionally, Trax released “Rising Again,” emphasizing collaboration and innovation, with proceeds going to Chance the Rapper’s nonprofit, SocialWorks. The anniversary also sees the launch of Trax’s first official fashion line, highlighting its cultural roots.

Screamin’ Rachael remains dedicated to evolving Trax through community engagement and support for emerging artists, showcasing the label’s continued commitment to creativity and diversity. Overall, Trax Records remains a vital force in music, continuing to push boundaries and amplify voices.
