Josh Wink

Ovum proudly proclaims the release of “607 Sessions” by legendary electronic musician Josh Wink. This first volume in a new archival series dives profoundly into Winks’ prolific early bedroom studio output, offering two previously unreleased renditions of the much-fabled song, “Realize.”

Named after the address of the now-legendary studio where they were created, “607 Sessions” stretches back to 1993–1995, a defining year in Josh Winks’s extensive career. With classic albums like “Higher State of Consciousness,” “Don’t Laugh,” and “Meditation” will show and the cult favorite (first ovum release) “Liquid Summer” solidifying his position in dance music history, Wink’s meteoric rise to prominence in the international acid house and techno scenes these years defined.

“Realize” is among those legendary songs that grew on whispered, bootleg mixed tapes, and in DJ memories, being played by Wink on acetate at raves, warehouses, festivals, and vogue clubs during the scene’s formative years. Thought to have been missing for decades following a catastrophic hard drive crash, it was recently found on a forgotten DAT tape during a storage unit clear-out. Recently remastered and tested among a trustworthy circle of DJs, the reaction was electric; this wasn’t just nostalgia; it was eternal energy set to reenter the dance floor.

Josh Wink reflects: “Rediscovering music I composed in the early 1990s feels like unearthing a time capsule from a distant version of myself, who was experimental and endlessly curious. Believing that these tracks (recorded directly onto DAT tape) have miraculously resurfaced with a striking sense of now, as if they were made for this moment, set by a time machine. Back then, I was immersed in the world of hardware instruments, shaping sound through different mindsets and gadgets, constantly pushing boundaries of what these tools could convey. Hearing it again, after all these years, I’m amazed by how alive and relevant they still sound—raw, textured, and unconcerned with trends. It reminds me that honest experimentation can create something timeless.”

More than just a nostalgic look back, the “607 Sessions” series is a living record of a pivotal period in underground electronic music, now newly mastered for a new generation of listeners as well as long-time fans.

The release of “607 Sessions” also falls on an important career milestone as 2025 marks the 30th anniversaries of Josh Winks classic songs “Dont Laugh” (as Winx), “I’m Ready,” and the acid rave classic “Higher State of Consciousness.” Each of these records helped shape the sound of an age and propelled Josh to worldwide notoriety, thereby impacting several generations of electronic producers and DJs. The timing of this archival series emphasizes his legacy and his ongoing importance in the contemporary scene.
