Label Watch: Monstercat

Monstercat signs artists for single releases only, rather than exclusivity deals, which lets its artists retain copyright control of their song and the ability to release tracks on other record labels. The label follows a cycle, releasing three new tracks a week (usually on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) in addition to an hour-long podcast that is streamable every Tuesday at 1PM PST on Monstercat’s Twitch Channel. About every thirty song releases, a new album is compiled containing these and two continuous mixes of the album. Releases are made available on Monstercat’s site, iTunes, Xbox Music, Spotify, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Google Play Music, and are featured on the Monstercat YouTube and Twitch channels.

2014 was a banner year for Monstercat. The label teamed up with Electric Family, an EDM Lifetsyle brand that produces a collaboration bracelet donating 100% of it’s sales to the Humane Society of Canada. In June, Monstercat reached one million units in sales in the United States and in July kicked off it’s first official 20 date tour titled The Uncaged Tour featuring Pegboard Nerds, Stephen Walking and Varien. In September 2014, Monstercat celebrated its 3-year anniversary with a mix containing 78 of the top tracks from Monstercat’s history. In December 2014, Monstercat became the 8th largest YouTube channel in Canada and has broken into the Top 250 in the world and launched their 24 hour digital radio station, hosted and streamable on Twitch.tv

Artists on the Monstercat label include Krewella, Pegboard Nerds, ROGUE, Project 46, Aerochord, AU5, Grabbitz, LBF, Haywire, Noisestorm, Tristam and Vicetone among others.

We’re looking forward to what the label has in store for us in 2015. So should you.
